maybe if we ban gay marriage.. the homosexers wont be able to get pregnant and have more gay babies?

Filed under: Uncategorized — lj @ 10:53 am

I know how everyone said if Bush got elected again, they would move to Canada. And nobody did. But I was thinking about it, about how there is probably going to be a Constitutional (hic) Amendment banning gay marriage. And if there is, I am going to be very sad for this country. And I’m not even gay. So I don’t know how they will deal with it.

I hate how everything is about religion. And “Christian Values.” And fuck you guys, it has nothing to do with that.

What do you MEAN, “sanctity of marriage”? Every era throughout history has had its own guidelines on what society considered “okay” in marriage. In ancient times, we had arranged marriages. Then marriage between different social classes became okay. Then women actually started getting some power in their relationships. Then even *gasp* INTERRACIAL MARRIAGE is okay. What is it going to take for people to stop seeing these sorts of boundaries in relationships? The way we believe in marriage now (man/woman) is the only social barrier left in the way of people accepting gay marriage. Your grandmother probably thinks it’s bad for blacks and whites to get married. Why should you hold the same kind of prejudice?

Rod and I have been talking about going to the Bijou forever, but we never did. Yesterday was the last day it was open, since they’re tearing down the mall that surrounds it. We went, and paid $5 to see a movie called What the Bleep Do We Know!?, which was basically about quantum physics, but it really makes you think. So it sucks that we’ll never be able to go again. I can’t believe nobody ever got me to go before that.

  1. I totally agree with you. I believe that if you love someone, then you should be able to marry that person, it should not matter if they are the same sex as you or not. Who the hell is George Bush to say what is/is not right?

  7. I agree with what you said. Gay couples have gotten married and it makes people mad because no one has dropped down dead yet. It wont be the end of the world if its legalized, just get over it and move on. Our lives are surrounded by equality. Learning in pre-school that everyone is created equal. Well if everyone is created equal then why is there such a barrier between subjects like these, and why is it coming from one of the most powerful people in the US, our president? Doesnt he care what he is doing to this country? We’re divided 50/50 and its not bringing us together at all.

  8. hi, i’m heather. it’s been a pleasure to run across this entry and your comment, i completely agree with your perspective towards equality, and i enjoy knowing that the small little world i surround myself in is becoming more and more open minded and less judgemental each and every day. but, it will deffinitely take a lot more time. It is frusterating being part of the gay community, but with all bad comes good, and someday, maybe we’ll get lucky.

  9. Althought I cant identify myself as someone who is gay, I think its terrible that people who are gay are looked upon as outcasts or aliens. I have a cousin who is gay, and it doesnt bother me. Its just another form of loving. It sucks that so many people are against it, but people fought slavery and won, so Im sure we’ll get over this obstacle as well. The fact that Bush’s vice president, Channey, has a gay daughter just confuses me. How could he support someone who is against everythig his daughter has fought for? I dont know. This whole thing is rediculas. How can the president of the united states say “no, you cant marry them, it goes against the bible,” or whatever his lame excuse was. Not everyone believes in the bible and not everyone cares what the bible has to say. Still, there is nothing wrong with same sex marriage.

  13. what need to happen is we need to get some normal person to be a president, someone that has never been excessivly rich or poor, a middle class person with good moral values and someone who can be trusted. also- they are going to put up a buisness building where the mall/bijou is. i bet that will get torn down too.

  17. In all seriousness, you almost made me cry with this entry. It’s so unfair to be judged on how you love someone and made me think… if they succeed in banning gay marriage, there’s going to be something else they’ll go after. It won’t be enough. There’s so many issues that this country is torn apart over… what’s next? And I hate the fact that this gets so much attention, where there are other much more important things to focus on like, oh, curing cancer, fighting poverty, creating more jobs, improving education systems. But no. Making sure same sex marriage is banned is of upmost importance in our nation. That’s really sad and says a lot about our country. I can honestly say I don’t have much faith at all in our leader or country.

  23. Hi. I’m from Canada and you know what’s sad? What’s sad is that the American Presidential election got more media coverage than the Canadian PM elections that took place just a few short months before. And I think more Americans should move to Canada because we’re just so damn friendly. (off-topic, i know.) Gay marriage is legal in Canada and couples from all across the world come here to get married and I think that is just too cool. Love, Canada P.S. zig_mover, you get a lot of replies!

  24. Nobody was looking at someone that was going to be a good leader, everyone just wanted a president who would uphold MORAL VALUES. That was the number one issue that people said concerned them. We’re in a fucking war, losing jobs, gas prices are outrageous, etc etc, but people still want a president just based on abortion and gay marriage. Which is pretty annoying. Living in a country with this much ignorance. A poll came in yesterday that said 44% of Americans want to restrict civil liberties of Muslim-Americans. Anyhow, you’re saying that in Canada, there was more coverage of the US elections than the Canadian PM ones?
