i got a new car. for FREE.

Picture020.jpegApparently my beloved minivan would cost about $1200 to fix. Considering I only paid $900 for it.. I’m just gonna junk it, or give it away or something.

So my grandmother is sick, cancer, but I think they got rid of that, but she won’t take her pills right so she can’t really drive. Anyhow she gave me her car. It’s a ’94 Ford Escort, two door. 73,000 miles or so. It’s such an old-lady car, complete with the rosary hanging from the rearview, and the cross sticker on the window. And Beanie Baby on the dash. She only drove about 3 miles at a time: to church and back. I’m afraid of driving it really because it’s so used to that, I guess. I don’t know anything about cars.

Also, Glenn and his stupid friends were being idiots last night and having a shaving cream fight of some sort. He’s such a liar that I’m not really sure what happened. He uses semantics and doublespeak to get around EVERYTHING you could pin on him. “I didn’t spray any..” No, he squirted it onto a ball or something, and threw it. Anyhow, in the midst of the shaving cream battle, someone ran into my computer and now the hard drive is messed up and I can’t use the computer. I’m really pissed about having to retype the first four pages of my term paper.

Instead of typing all this, I could have just written “i got a new car, and my computer broke” but this is so much more fun.

  1. That car is def. more you than the mini-van. The shaving cream fight sounds creepy.

  3. I can just picture you in a cute boxy car. Not like a mini van. That’s more mom-ish.

  4. who even shaving cream fights? hey, that little car looks like my brother’s. you should create a group called “Little Red Car Drivers United”, or “LRCDU”. but that acronym makes no sense, so maybe it’s a bad idea.

  5. besides the fact that i spent $1000+ on a car that died in a month, i’m sad that i put stickers on there and now i can’t reuse them. 🙁 i need new stickers.

  6. Shaving cream fights? My brother had one of those. I found it utterly hysterical. I’m sorry your expierence wasn’t as wonderful.

  13. Although your granny’s health is more important, her gift to you is quite timely. It is SAFE RELIABLE economical transportation and a ticket to greater independence. Thus, it meets all the basic criteria. You could make a tax-deductible contribution of your minivan to a charity. There is at least one nationwide charity that specializes in accepting old cars. They give you a receipt and an estimated fair market value.

  14. That’s what I’m going to do with it. I tried to give my Volvo to Easter Seals, but it had 3 flat tires and they wouldn’t come tow it. I’m afraid of tax deductions like that, because my dad screwed up my taxes last year (and almost cost me $200 in returns) so I don’t want to make it any harder on him, since he insists on doing his own. Even in just the week that I’ve had to drive my mom’s car, I already felt like I was losing independence. I’m hoping on her health improving, it’s not like the doctors are saying she doesn’t have long to live.. but it’s just sad to see her lose her independence.

  15. I’m praying for your grammy!! Oh yeah, and if you had just written that your computer broke and you got a car, then you would’ve had like a bajillion annoying comments from people wanting details about it all. So even though you typed it all out, it’s better ’cause then you won’t have anyone pestering you. p.s. – It makes me sad that you and Glenn fight all the time.

  16. I love your grandmother. I dont know her but I want you to know that I love her. I also saw what cancer can do to someone beautiful. Perfect car, dont worry about what the car is ‘used to’. Its a car- the fact that thats all it did makes it an even better car. Leave the cross and rosaries right where they are please. For your sweet grandmother.

  17. I took down the rosary because it was becoming a blind spot- these are some thick beads we’re talkin about here. The cross can stay, though, and the rosary is still on the dash. I’m starting to like it better than the minvan, now I just need to get the radio working.. any idea how to take the old one out of the minivan? There’s no screws or anything so it’s like a puzzle to me.

    Comment by zig_mover — December 20, 2004 @ 4:37 am

  18. no, you cant take the old one from the minivan. its dodge, your car is ford. go get a CD player and ill help you.

  19. it’s not the stock radio, the guy had it replaced. they look like they have the same dimensions.. and i just want a tape deck, so i can plug my mp3izzle in. so i should probly go to the junkyard and try to get one.

    Comment by zig_mover — December 20, 2004 @ 5:16 am

  20. go for it. make sure its from a car with all its windows (water damage if not) ps. standard auto junkyard on granite st. already has a shitload of car stereos removed. ps. I ALREADY HAVE A STOCK FORD RADIO FOR YOU FROM MY AEROSTAR! I forgot :). (wire harness and all. holla.

  21. I SITLL DONT GET WHY THE MINIVAN WOULDNT WORK. THEYRE THE SAME SIZE. but thx. any help you can give me is ++. ps. ++ is the new word for great.

    Comment by zig_mover — December 20, 2004 @ 9:30 pm

  22. different make. totally different schematics and wiring. definantly wouldnt even try you would not be able to figure out the wire color conversions and you would definantly fry something you really dont want to fry. it can cause serious possible damage as bad as frying your ignition wiring console. the amperage and fusing in the chrysler stereo may also be different, causing you to blow fuses left and right if you dont find out the accurate fusing information. i dont think you should. keep reminding me, ill bring my stock ford radio (w/ tape player yo)
