from an interview done last night at the bright eyes show in Philadelphia:
“…..Now climbing to his mid twenties, a tired and distraught poet decides to call it quits after seven years of success. “People are sick of hearing the same old bullshit,” slurs a slightly intoxicated Oberst. The singer/songwriter plans on releasing a Greatest Hits album in the fall of 2006. “This is going to be it, the final chapter, a celebration and conclusion” claims the musician…..”
I heard they’re cancelling all tour dates for the current tour.. I’ll post a link when I can find one.
Um, “slightly intoxicated”? I’m so very fucking sure that the slightly is a nice lie. The boy can barely stand, much less perform anymore… and “tired and distraught”? I’m surprised he’s not checking into a hospital for ‘exhaustion’, or, you know, rehab. He and Lindsey Lohan should be bestest friends.

thats what i’d heard as well, but i saw him perform a few days ago and he was polite, friendly, and sober, to my surprise.

o_0 I’m impressed. I saw him in March on the I’m Wide Awake tour and while the show was amazing, I was surprise he was able to stand by the end of the show for the amount he drank between songs.

well he was drinking like, beers, but he only had about three, and wasn’t visibly intoxicated at all. he played a variety of music from different times in his career, and even was polite to the obnoxious girls screaming his name (“thanks guys, ya’ll are sweet”) which is more than i’d have expected, hah. i was really surprised by the whole thing because i’d heard he was a huge drunken asshole that refused to play any of his old songs.

I thought that’s what this little tour was about, though? Playing a wide variety of stuff, rather than making people go to separate concerts to hear his different sounds. Bleh. I’m glad he’s getting his shit together, though. He seems like he COULD be a nice guy, if he wanted to be.

that would be sad but i’ve heard this rumor a lot before. & also, it said in a few places that conor was refusing to do interviews on this tour with any media outlit.

It’s about Damn time. I’m one of his biggest fans, and its just time to end it. Quit while you’re ahead… He’s got a large collections of albums, that are all fantastic…and he’s done all that he can do…I agree with him. He’s making the right choice in my opinion.
