This is why public school is so ridiculous. I’m in my internship thing in the computer room, and everyone in here is watching Shrek 2 on the projector screen. And I’m reading this book trying to tune it out. Everyone in my english class was saying how they hated it, so I figured I’d finally get around to reading it. Who has read it, and what do you think (without giving anything away about it please!)

  1. personally, I thought it was one of the most incredible books I’ve ever read. although Salinger is one of my favorite authors…but thats besides the point. its an incredible book that everyone should read and adore. kthx

  2. I LOVE THAT BOOK. it’s amazing, despite the fact that many people think they are TOO COOL to like it, because it became kind of a cult thing. you are better than listening to other people though, and that’s so awesome. enjoy it!

  5. What I remember of reading it, I liked it. That was in grade 10 though, and a few years ago…. Personally, I liked Lord of the Flies by Golding better.

  6. One of my favorite books. My mom tells me all the time how much she hated it.. but I really enjoyed the imagery that book presented.

  7. i quote lord of the flies all of the time… catcher though is a very good read and was one of the few (probably around 5-6)books i actually read in high school…

  8. The imagery is incredible, yes, but the degregation of society is fascinating to me. To think that the boys work their way from ‘civilized’ to ‘survival of the fittest’ in that way is just incredible, IMHO.

  17. i really disliked catcher in the rye actually. my teacher (junior year) inundated us with all the hidden symbolism and such from the teacher’s manual and that made it pretty interested…just how salinger uses all this symbolism and stuff. but in general, i really didn’t like it. it was so frustrating and repetitive. the entire book could be summed up by holden saying “THE ENTIRE WORLD IS FUCKING PHONY AND SO AM I”. i mea, i’ve read worse, but i didn’t really like it. lord of the flies on the other hand…that was some good reading. <3 Jillian
