Wasn’t I happy last week? I think I was. Saturday I woke up with what at first presented itself as a hangover (Friday was fun, but I didn’t drink that much), which by that night was still raging. I had driven to Boston for an evening at the Northeastern campus. I was still weary, my friend apparently was not. Board games ensued and briefly helped distract from my nauseous shell of a body. I couldn’t feel anything except this awful wave of disgust. Everything. Even my teeth hurt. I tried to eat; couldn’t. Nursing my bottle of Sprite, the can of God-awful Miller Lite beer long since forgotten.

I fell asleep on the Mass Pike on the way home, a lot of times. It was irresponsible of me, I should have pulled off the road and slept in my car. I make bad decisons. Sunday was a long shift at work, made slightly more bearable by 400 miligrams of Ibuprofen. Once the fever broke, I thought I was good. I felt the same on Monday, and Tuesday. I wake up every morning feeling fine, but as the day progresses I just start to feel terrible. Swollen glands, irritibility (though, isn’t that the norm at work?), loss of appetite. I just keep drinking water and OJ, and the only thing I feel like eating is trail mix.

I love dried fruit.

I’ve had two lectures this week about why I should never ever drink. Ever. Until I’m 21. My dad apparently can’t make up his mind, because at first he was saying he will not tolerate it; then he said he understands I might be experimenting with things like this. But that doesn’t make it alright. I actually feel kind of bad about it now.

This one is my favorite. I’m in it. There were originally 4 pictures in this post but I took out two.

The last two are both at night. It was dark. The camera was placed on something still and set the exposure times to 2 seconds. They came out kind of neat. They’re not phenomenal but I’d appreciate (negative) criticism.

Spring break: hiking. As soon as I get money, I’m going to buy shit. There is so much on this planet, and all I’ve seen of it is in the suburbs of Worcester.

  6. or you know, slept over like i warned you to 8,000,000 times. i may have been drunk, but it was good advice. i like your pictures & think that the lighting in both of them is pulled off very well, and especially creatively in the first picture, for being in the middle of the night. the composition of the second picture could be a little stronger maybe? it’s still a good photo, but i feel like it might be too cut in half to direct your attention anywhere. like the down the ally is where your eye should be lead, not to the big blank concrete spot in the middle of the photo. if the bottom inch or so was cut off it’d be stronger, in my opnion. (hahaha, you asked for criticism and no one had given you any yet, so there).

  7. i tried cropping some of the road out, but then i was too far forward in the picture and i didn’t like it as much :/ but thank you for actual criticism. i would have slept over.. but i would have actually wanted to sleep.. and i don’t think that’s what emily wanted. hmph.

  8. i’m sure if you just said ‘i’ll spend the night but i’m sleeping,’ she might have been mad, but she wouldn’t have been so upset at hearing you had fallen asleep driving on the highway. anyway, we all have floors. come hang out with us.

  13. where were those pictures taken dude? I love em! The setting almost looks like a movie set…it almost looks too clean to be an alley…you know? really neat. ps: lets eat dried fruit on the way to see jonah. mmkay? πŸ˜‰

  14. I agree with whiskywaterkiss, they are very nice and do look like a movie set. However I was also thinking that they reminded me of half-life 2. Mainly the first picture; on the stairwell in the background it looks like there’s a board across a doorway and to me it just screams half-life 2. Also like the “emptiness” in the first in the upper left, the shadow / night gives a nice negative space area.

  15. nice pixxxxxxx i like the 2nd one better. the first is nice, but if it was a litter sharper i think i’d like it a little more.

  16. I really like the bluish hue between the buildings in the second pic. Very west side story-ish actually- in the cool old hollywood movie set kind of way. Well done- and I am addicted to plump- slightly sticky and moist….. DRIED APRICOTS- it’s true, been a life-long addiction -Caesar Agustus

  17. neil, you have a really nice eye. that second one, i didn’t even realize there was someone in it. i think i may switch my major from graphics to photo. my photo mentor is quite convincing, and fucking awesome. plus, i think i’m going to be photographing for UU concerts and bandersnatch which are the two organizations here that put on all the concerts/shows. i’ll be their resident photographer. that’d be sweet. anyway, when i’m the #1 photographer for all the bands ever, i won’t forget you. :] sorry, i was too lazy to read your post. i just looked at the pictures.

  19. You do not seem to be in the second picture, unless hidden in the shadows. While both photos have a vanishing point (top of stairs, and far end of dark alley), neither leads anywhere or leads to someplace unknown. Which may be the point you are trying to make about life. There was a surprising lack of litter or garbage or junk in the photos, and that seemed eery. A stray cat or wind-blown brown paper bag or discarded MD20 bottle might have added some interest. Both photos create a mild sense of suspense. Waiting for something to be seen or heard or otherwise experienced. The muted colors and lighting in both photos is appealing, especially in the second photo. The question that these photos ask is: Would you climb the stairs to see what there is on the upper level? Would you go down the alleyway to see what lay in wait (which it seems you actually did)? More generally, they ask: Are you an outdoor adventurer in life, or are you an inner explorer? Thanks for sharing. PS: You will eventually learn from experience how to handle alcoholic beverages, and that is worth learning. Then you can give them up if you wish. But please … please … please … do not drink and drive, and do not drive while feeling sleepy. I fell asleep at the wheel in my senior year in high school. The resulting midnight solo car crash into a bridge and down a ravine and into a creek bottom left me for dead. A kind stranger noticed the wreckage from the little-traveled highway and called the highway patrol. The near fatal injury and nine months of hospitalization and recovery completely altered my life, causing me to forgo a West Point appointment that I had won. Take care. Stay alert.
